The Prime Minister of Thailand emphasized recent progress in tackling drug trafficking and call center scams, two key issues for the government.
The Prime Minister of Thailand announced that Thailand and Cambodia are working closely together to combat call center scams, a transnational crime that continues to lure Thai citizens into illegal work in Cambodia. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed his government’s commitment to dismantling these criminal networks.
The Thai Prime Minister revealed that the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has held discussions on operational challenges to tackle this issue and
seek collaboration from the private sector. While authorities have made significant progress in dismantling these criminal networks, small-scale operators remain active, necessitating continued joint efforts.
The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Public Health are coordinating efforts to ensure effective rehabilitation programs for drug users. However, drug distribution remains a challenge in northern Thailand, with continued production from neighboring countries. This has led to stricter international cooperation to enhance control measures, while authorities remain vigilant against smuggling via air and sea routes.
The Thai government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling both call center fraud and drug trafficking, aiming to boost national security, curb human trafficking, and protect citizens from these criminal enterprises.
