PM orders for immediate assistance to be provided to 18 Thai fishing crews stranded at sea off Somalia

Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Government Spokesperson, disclosed that Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has great concern over the well-being of 18 Thai fishing crews who were stranded at sea off Somalia. While they are arranged to return to Thailand on August 12, 2019, the Prime Minister enjoined concerned agencies to take best possible care of the fishing crews.

As for assistance measures, if the fishing crews are members of Thai Overseas Employment Support Fund, they will be taken care of according to the Fund’s regulations. Provisions include overseas vehicle fares, food and accommodation, actual expenses of medical treatment (not exceeding 30,000 Baht), and transportation. Assistance will also be provided in following up on due privileges, such as pending wages, and fund member benefits, as well as in facilitating their intended employment, both domestic and overseas. Recruitment agencies will also be prosecuted if found to violate Employment Arrangement and Jobseeker Protection Act, B.E. 2528 (1985) and its amendment (No. 2, B.E. 2537).
