On 8 October 2015, H.E. Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, joined Dr. Toe Toe Aung, Municipal Minister of Mon State, in the handover ceremony of the renovated auxiliary building of the Reception Centre for Victims of Human Trafficking in Mawlamyine. Also present at the ceremony was Mr. Soe Kyi, Director-General of the Department of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement of Myanmar.
The renovation was implemented with support from the Royal Thai Government in the total amount of 5 million baht (approximately 180 million kyat). The newly renovated building is fully equipped with modern equipment and amenities necessary for the rehabilitation of human trafficking victims in Myanmar.
This project reflects Thailand’s commitment to combating human trafficking. With its transnational nature, the Royal Thai Government fully realizes the need to cooperate with Myanmar as well as other stakeholders.
The upgrading of the Reception Centre for Victims of Human Trafficking in Mawlamyine is part of efforts by Thailand to help Myanmar combat human trafficking. At the present, there is extensive bilateral cooperation on this important issue on prevention, prosecution and protection aspects to uphold a comprehensive and effective approach to human trafficking between the two countries.
