On 26 August 2024, Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Thailand, co-organized a youth event on “Summit of the Future and Human Rights Council (HRC): What young people want to see?” with the aim of providing an opportunity for youths to participate in formulating policies and shaping direction of Thailand in advancing towards to the global future. Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, Ms. Kyungsun Kim, UNICEF Representative for Thailand, and Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen, Director of TIJ, delivered opening remarks, while Professor Emeritus Vitit Muntarbhorn, UN human rights expert, moderated youth’s discussion and also presented at the event.
The event was attended by over 50 youths, who participated in brainstorming activities and presenting their key priorities (key asks) for (1) the Summit of the Future on 22 – 23 September 2024 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, including stabilizing global governance, sustainable development, new and digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI), quality education that serves children with diverse needs and interests, spaces for youth participation, participation of vulnerable groups, decentralization, as well as environment and climate change; and (2) the work of Human Rights Council (HRC), as Thailand has presented its candidature for HRC for the term 2025-2027, such as the rule of law and democracy, human security, rights of vulnerable groups, as well as civil and political rights.
