Thailand’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) to further strengthen labor inspectors’ capacity for labor trafficking and forced labor petition process in accordance with the national security policy.

August 24, 2021. Mrs. Sopa Kieatnircha, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour, chaired the opening of the labour inspectors’ capacity-building program focusing on labor trafficking and forced labor petition process. As the main agency in charge of “Protection” aspect of anti-human trafficking policy under the 20-year National Strategy (2018-2037) and the Plan of Action on Anti-Trafficking 2018-2037, the DLPW has been assigned to be at the forefront of anti-labor trafficking tasks.

DDG Kieatnircha reiterated that the Labor Ministry is determined to continuously work to eradicate human trafficking from Thailand and constantly improve the work process to combat human trafficking in all dimensions.

To “protect” the workers from becoming trafficking victims, the Department works to ensure their rights to legal benefits. At the same time, it is crucial to continue building capacity for labor inspectors and equipping them with necessary and up-to-date knowledge and skills to further enhance efficiency in their work to protect.

The program took place from August 24-27 and August 30 via teleconference, due to COVID-19 situation. Attendees included 150 labor inspectors from Bangkok and the provincial areas.
