After receiving a tip-off from the International Justice Mission Foundation in Bangkok, Thai Law Enforcement Agencies began its investigation into the human trafficking operation in the fishing industry around the area of Nakhon Si Thammarat. The authority helped rescue 5 Burmese nationals from two groups of traffickers.

The investigation reveals that the employers confiscated identification and ATM cards of all victims. Further inquiries found out that the employers would hold back wages and used debt bondages as a method to strengthen their control over the victims.

Mr. Andrew Wasuwong, executive director of IJM Foundation Bangkok, commended Thai Law Enforcement Agencies for the quick and effective investigation that led to the successful arrest and rescue operation. Mr. Wasuwong also mentioned that IJM is more than willing to help the Thai authority to combat and eradicate human trafficking from the fishing industry.

This operation reveals the importance of collaboration and cooperation between different public and private agencies in terms of exchanging information that led to the arrest of human traffickers. Moreover, successful collaboration also helped rescue 5 trafficking victims from the trafficker. It should be mentioned that human trafficking is a very serious and harmful crime that all parties should try their best to eradicate it as much as possible.
