Mr. Porametee Vimolsiri, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security revealed that the Anti-Human Trafficking Tracking Sub-Committee has completed the drafting of the Royal Thai Government’s Country Report on Anti-Human Trafficking Efforts of 2019. The Sub-Committee has refined the report according to suggestions from the Anti- Anti-Human Trafficking Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan. The report will focus on three themes which are prevention, protection, and prosecution.
This report will focus on the prosecution and law enforcement efforts against human trafficking which include 286 criminal prosecutions, 552 arrests, and the rescue of 1,818 human trafficking victims.
For prevention, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon recently launched an application called “PROTECT-U” to provide an additional option for victims and whistleblowers to contact the authorities. The application enables whistleblowers and victims to share their GPS location on Google Maps. The application also provides information regarding the rights of foreign workers in Thailand in six languages namely English, Cambodian, Burmese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Lao.
The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security also requires employers to translate working contracts into different languages such as Thai, English, and the first language of the employee in order to ensure that foreign workers will receive proper employee benefits according to Thai law. The Thai government will also increase its efforts in bringing the perpetrators of human trafficking to the legal justice system.
