PM orders humanitarian assistance and thorough investigation on latest Rohingya boat incident
Lt. Gen. Werachon Sukondhapatipak, Deputy Government Spokesperson, disclosed about the incident of Rohingya boat being swept into the shore at Koh Rawi, Satun province that Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has made an order to the Royal Thai Police and other concerned agencies to rush in investigating to find out whether there is anyone behind the incident or whether it is the case of human trafficking or illegal labor. Public healthcare agencies are also enjoined to provide health check up to the Rohingya refugees in accordance with the humanitarian principle.
The Prime Minister would like to underscore that the Thai Government has always placed importance on the issue of Rohingya refugees, and has cooperated with the global community to seriously address the problem. At a local level, Operation Center For Patrol and Humanitarian Assistance to Irregular Migrants in the Indian Ocean (OCPHAM) has continuously conducted reconnaissance and inspection, and provided humanitarian assistance to the refugees. The public is also urged to notify the authority should they encounter any abnormality, especially illegal act of government officials.
