BANGKOK, 8th March 2018 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon, has called upon officials to relentlessly take action against persons involved in human trafficking, ensuring no government officials will take bribes.

The Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, Lt. Gen. Kongcheep Tantravanich, said the meeting of the anti-human trafficking commission has acknowledged the progress of anti-human trafficking operations during January 1st to March 31stm 2018, and the operations plan for April 2018 to March 2019.

The new plan calls for more serious operations, faster case processing, stricter law enforcement, and better public participation. It also calls for better screening and protection of victims, the enhancement of screening officials’ capabilities, the improvement in rights and statuses of migrant workers, and better promotion of information on human trafficking harms and threats.

Lt. Gen. Kongcheep said Gen. Prawit has instructed officials to verify the statistic of prosecuted suspects and called upon related agencies to relentlessly carry out operations to solve the issue, with a timely prosecution of found cases and more throughout patrols at suspicious sites.

The Defense Minister has ordered officials to expedite the proceeding of existing cases, particularly those associated with government officials, which should be checked by the Ministry of Justice every week.

He has also stressed no government officials shall take bribes or involve in these cases, and that all related persons must be prosecuted.
