The Ministry of Labour has increased operational teams to inspect, arrest and process cases with employers/organization and foreign labourers within 10 areas in Bangkok. Persons with clues on human trafficking can report this to the Ministry of Labour or call the hotline on 1506, whereby teams will go to the suspected areas, inspect and process cases as well as ask for employers to take foreign labourers through the registration process at embassies or origin countries in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos before the 31st of March 2015.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour Mr. Nakorn Silpaarcha presided over the working committee’s meeting to monitor and investigate foreign labour management and human trafficking. He stated that the Ministry has increased operational teams to investigate, arrest and process cases with employers/organizations and illegal foreign labourers whereby officials from the Department of Employment have collaborated with the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare forming 10 teams from the original 3 teams which covered 10 areas in Bangkok. Inspection spots in Bangkok included:
Area 1: Dusit, Pom Prap Sattru Phai, Phra Nakhon and Samphanthawong
Area 2: Chatuchak, Don Mueang, Bang Sue and Lak Si
Area 3: Din Daeng, Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi and Huai Khwang
Area 4: Bang Rak, Pathum Wan, Yan Nawa, Sathon and Bang Kho Laem
Area 5: Khlong San, Thon Buri, Bangkok Noi, Bangkok Yai and Bang Phlat
Area 6: Taling Chan, Thawi Watthana, Bang Kae, Phasi Charoen and Nong Khaem
Area 7: Chom Thong, Thung Khru, Bang Khun Thian, Bang Bon and Rat Burana
Area 8: Khlong Toei, Bang Na, Prawet, Phra Khanong, Watthana and Suan Luang
Area 9: Khan Na Yao, Bang Kapi, Lat Phrao, Wang Thonglang and Bueng Kum
Area 10: Khlong Sam Wa, Min Buri, Lat Krabang, Saphan Sung, Nong Chok and Sai Mai
The results of the investigations, arrest and case processing between the 9th-13th January 2015 in Bangkok investigated companies in 18 places with 5,089 foreign labourers and proceeded cases with 3 employers/organizations and 33 illegal foreign labourers consisting of 14 Cambodians, 16 Myanmar citizens and 3 from other nations (Vietnam and Bangladesh).
Persons with clues on illegal child and women labour, forced labour or human trafficking, can be report this to the Ministry of Labour or through the hotline on 1506. The operational teams will then enter the area for inspection and arrests, also requesting employers to take employees to register at the Myanmar, Cambodian or Laotian embassy or in origin countries before the 31st March 2015. However if the process of citizenship verification for the 1.6 million foreign labourers does not finish before the 31st March 2015, other methods to continue the process will be considered by the Board of Directors consisting of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Security Council and Defense Minister as the Chairman, with the Permanent Secretary of Labour as the secretariat, said Mr. Nakorn.
